What happens if I lose a book?

I lost or damaged a book; what do FRCC Libraries charge?

Answer

FRCC Libraries do not charge late fees. However, our campus libraries have different policies about lost books.

FRCC-WC College Hill Library:

FRCC-BCC Library

  • Items(s) at this location are not automatically renewed for the borrower.
  • When an item is checked out of the library (books for 21 days and DVDs for 7 days), the Circulation Desk will give the borrower a sticky note stating the due date of their item. It's the borrower's responsibility to renew their item(s) by calling the phone listed on this sticky note or emailing the librarian (Michael.novak@frontrange.edu) to renew their item.
  • If an item is overdue by at least two months, this item will be considered "Lost" and be labeled in the catalog as such. When this happens, the FRCC-BCC Library will send an email alert to library users listing the replacement cost of their lost item(s) with an additional $10 processing fee.
  • Email alerts mentioning overdue item(s) will be sent out every month to remind library users to return their items promptly. Fees will be waived if the item comes back in good condition.
  • FRCC-BCC does not accept replacement items in exchange for the lost/damaged books/DVDs.

FRCC-LC Library:

  • Harmony Library is a joint-use facility with Poudre Libraries and our FRCC and our library collections are integrated. So, FRCC-LC Library follows their procedure for lost or damaged books.
  • Books are automatically renewed 3 times if no one else put a hold on them.
  • Library customers are responsible for ensuring their email address is updated to receive book due date reminders.
  • When a book is 21 days overdue, Poudre Libraries considers the book lost and a collection agency sends a letter listing the charges and requesting the book be returned.
  • Library customers will be charged the cost of the book and a $10 processing fee unless they can return the book.
  • Poudre Libraries does not accept replacement items in exchange for the lost/damaged book.
