Do FRCC Libraries have laptops that students can borrow?
Answer
Boulder County Campus and Westminster Campus Libraries do not have laptops for borrowing. See community options below.
- Harmony Library on Larimer Campus has two Chromebooks that students can check out, but they are for library-use only. Poudre Libraries (FRCC-Larimer Campus's partner) also has a set of laptops that patrons can check out and take with them for a week, though they have a long hold list Discover -- Chromebook laptop (poudrelibraries.org).
- FRCC students can also meet with a Digital Navigator at Harmony Library or other libraries in Larimer County to discuss device options.
Community Options
Since FRCC no longer has the Rotary donation of free laptops for students, here are some other options for a free laptop for educational or job seeking purposes:
- FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program www.fcc.gov/acp (but applicants have to choose to use this benefit on either a cell phone or a computer)
- Digital Roots for Job Seekers: https://www.larimer.gov/ewd/digitalroots
- Recycled PC (Northern Colorado organization that takes old computers and donates them to individuals free of charge; there's an application where you describe your need for the device) https://www.recycled-pc.org/request-a-pc/
- Soon, Larimer Campus-Harmony Library will also have the Digital Navigators program; if students meet 6 times with a navigator, they can keep the device they are learning on.
Below are Colorado-based options for purchasing lower cost laptops; students can use financial aid to pay for these costs:
- PCs for People: requires photo ID and documentation of receiving government assistance https://www.pcsforpeople.org/get-tech/
- ITrefresh (storefront for refurbished laptops: 308 Commerce Dr. Unit) https://itrefresh.org/refurbishing/
- Community Computer Connection: on the more expensive side for used computers and limited inventory at the moment https://c3-colorado.org/
